The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to celebrating and sustaining the vibrant cultural heritage of New Orleans and Louisiana, is embarking on an exciting new chapter under the transformative leadership of its new CEO. Position Overview

The Director of Marketing will lead the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s efforts to strategically identify and engage the right audiences through targeted channels and compelling value propositions. Working closely with the Programs & Community Partnerships team and the Senior Leadership Team of seven directors, who collaboratively craft the key messaging and communications, the Director of Marketing will focus on implementing marketing strategies that effectively support and amplify the Foundation’s communication goals. This role also oversees the Foundation’s visual and brand identity, ensuring consistency and cohesion across all platforms to drive audience engagement and advance the organization’s mission.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with the Foundation's mission and goals.
  • Partner with senior leadership to craft and implement messaging that amplifies the Foundation’s programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate across departments to integrate marketing efforts into donor campaigns, events, and community programs.

Brand Management & Audience Engagement

  • Oversee the evolution of the Foundation’s brand identity across all platforms.
  • Lead the creation of engaging campaigns that attract and retain diverse audiences.
  • Leverage data and insights to refine strategies for maximum impact.

Digital Marketing & Content Creation

  • Manage digital platforms, including websites, email campaigns, and social media.
  • Develop and oversee the production of high-quality digital and graphic assets.
  • Ensure timely delivery of promotional materials and maintain consistency across channels.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor the marketing team, fostering creativity and growth.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to enhance capacity.

Budget Oversight

  • Develop and manage the marketing budget in alignment with organizational priorities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Media Buying: Research, negotiate, plan, and purchase paid media and advertisements for the Foundation’s programs, festivals, and grant initiatives, including print, digital, and social media ads.
  • Earned Media: Cultivate relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure press coverage, feature stories, and interviews that enhance visibility for the Foundation’s programs and initiatives.
  • Livestream Coordination: Coordinate livestreams for Jazz & Heritage concerts and festivals, ensuring quality and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Website Management: Oversee website updates, plugins, and security, ensuring seamless user experiences.
  • Email Campaigns: Manage eblast campaigns, including surveys and audience outreach.
  • Merchandise Sales: Oversee sales of Foundation-branded merchandise, including inventory management, vendor coordination, and promotional strategies to boost revenue at festivals and online.
  • Advertisement Sales: Manage the sale of ad space across Foundation programs, publications, and digital platforms, cultivating partnerships to increase revenue and visibility.
  • HR Support: Post job listings and manage incoming applications in collaboration with HR.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Key Qualifications

  • Proven experience in strategic marketing and branding, preferably in the arts or nonprofit sector.
  • Expertise in digital marketing, audience engagement, and graphic design.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Proficiency in marketing tools, analytics, and content management systems.

Produced in partnership with Festival Productions Inc., Jazz Fest is accompanied by other year-round festivals and performances focused on supporting local artists and cultural traditions. The Foundation retains full ownership of all Jazz Fest-related copyrights, trademarks, and licenses, ensuring its sustainable future.

Education is central to the Foundation’s mission. The Don 'Moose' Jamison Heritage School of Music, housed at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center, offers free music education to youth, along with other initiatives such as vocal workshops, beginner music programs, and professional audio training.

The Jazz & Heritage Archive preserves and perpetuates Louisiana’s music, culture, and heritage as the institutional repository for the Foundation and WWOZ 90.7 FM. Housing physical and digital records since the Foundation’s inception, it supports award-winning media projects and collaborates with national archives and museums.

Founded in 1980 and owned by the Foundation, WWOZ 90.7-FM connects local and international audiences to New Orleans and Louisiana culture through live broadcasts and streaming of Foundation events. WWOZ’s mission is to be the worldwide voice and flag-bearer of New Orleans’ culture and musical heritage.

The Foundation also plays a key role in grant-making, ensuring the support of musicians, educators, cultural producers, and entrepreneurs by investing proceeds from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell directly into the community with grants to fund projects that support the Foundation’s mission.
